Japanese Art Prints

Rare albumen prints of Japan’s Tradition and Culture from late Edo Japan to after the Meiji Restoration

I am lucky enough to own all of the original Japanese albumen prints from which the majority came from a Meiji period album I had inherited from my grandfather. Each photograph has been scanned at high resolution to ensure reproductions are of the highest quality. There are over 150 Japanese prints in the collection featuring Japan’s tradition and I'll be continuing to research and add them to the site. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Our 19th century albums of rare Japanese prints

Our beautiful albums date from the 1890s and include around 150 original large format hand-painted Japanese albumen prints between them. Originally created as souvenirs for Western tourists after the Meiji Restoration and most likely from one of the popular Yokohama studios such as that of Kusakabe Kimbei who opened his own studio in 1881.
